Nothing Phone 1 gets Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 Update
Nothing has finally announced the Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 based on the latest Android 14 version for the Nothing Phone (1). The stable version of Nothing OS 2.5 is already rolling out to Nothing Phone (2) users.
Nothing has started the beta testing of their Nothing OS 2.5 version for the Phone (1) through the latest Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 update. It packs very new features and improvements over the Nothing OS 2.0 version for the Phone (1). Also, the new Nothing OS will make your smartphone experience much better with the latest optimizations.

What’s New in Nothing OS 2.5
Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 is now available for the Phone (1) which brings many exciting new features.
Customisation
- Redesigned a joint Home Screen and Lock Screen customisation page and improved the edit wallpaper flow for a more comprehensive view of options.
- New Atmosphere wallpaper effect: Transform your background photo into a dynamic wallpaper that brings motion to colours on your home screen. A seamless transition between your lock and home screens.
- Introduced solid colour wallpapers for a cleaner Home Screen appearance.
- Added a monochrome colour theme in the basic colour section.
Gesture
- Customisable double-press power button to quickly access a chosen feature. Just head to Settings > System > Gestures.
- More Lock Screen shortcut options like Do Not Disturb, Mute, QR code scanner, and video camera.
- Capture screenshots quickly with a three-finger swipe gesture.
- New screenshot editor and menu, allowing for more advanced editing features and quick deletions.
New Widgets
- Pedometer Widget: Track your daily steps directly from your home screen. Set goals and monitor your progress to stay motivated.
- Media Player Widget: Displays the currently playing song. Control your music easily while on the move.
- Screen Time Widget: Monitor and manage your daily screen time to maintain a healthy digital lifestyle.
Notes: To use these new widgets, please update your Nothing Launcher and Nothing Widgets app to the latest versions available on the Play Store.
More improvements
- Added a new Glyph animation for when NFC is being used.
- Improved the experience of Flip to Glyph.
- Optimised the experience of the Weather app and improved the notification of weather alerts.
- Refreshed the back gesture arrow visual to be more in line with Nothing’s style.
- Made it possible to set ringtone and notification sound volumes separately, with an updated volume control interface.
- Updated Quick Settings layout and support to show more device icons.
- Improved the stability of the camera.
- Enhanced overall system stability for a more reliable and smooth experience.
How to get involved:
- Ensure you have the latest NOS version installed.
- Download the following APK and install it from your downloads
(This is different from the Installer provided for 2.5 Betas on Phone (2)) - Navigate to Settings > System > Update to Beta version.
- Tap “Check for new version” and follow the steps to get started.
- Share your feedback by heading to Settings > System > Feedback or be part of the conversation by joining nothing.community
Since this is an early version of Nothing OS 2.5 for Phone (1), it is always recommended to take a full backup of your data to avoid any serious issues.
How to rollback to Nothing OS 2.0 on Phone (1)
Take a full backup of your data before rolling back to the stable Nothing OS 2.0 version.
- Download the rollback package for Nothing OS 2.0.5
- Navigate to Settings > System > Update to Beta version.
- Tap “Import file” and select the previously downloaded package.
- Follow the steps to carry through with the rollback.
(You may need to create a folder called ‘Documents’ within Internal Storage if you experience an error when trying to install/rollback)
