Government of India has launched a new tool to track and block your lost or stolen phone. CEIR ( The Central Equipment Identity Registrar) is a new tool which helps to track and block your lost or stolen phone. Here’s how it works.
This tool will track your phone lost phone as well as block it if required. Also this will make your phone unusable on all network operators of India. It’s traceability will be automatically generated if someone tries to use your phone after it’s blocked. Also you can unblock your phone by urself from the portal after you find it.
Steps to Track and Block Your Lost or Stolen Phone
These are the steps to track and block your lost or stolen phone.
- You need to have your phone’s IMEI no. and this is must for the next steps.
- File a report with the police, also keep a copy of the report with you.
- Get a new duplicate SIM Card for the lost number from your telecom operator. This is required because you will need to provide this as the primary mobile number ( OTP will be sent on this number) while submitting the request for blocking your IMEI. ( According to TRAI, SMS services will be available after 24 hours of sim activation on re-issued SIM Cards).
- Take any identity proof (Like Aadhar Card), copy of police report and mobile purchase invoice with you.
- Now Go to this link and here request registration form for blocking the IMEI of lost or stolen phone. Also attach the required documents.
- After successful submission, you will get a Request ID. The same can be used in future to check the status of your request and to unblock the IMEI of your phone.
