BGMI Will be Ban in India Again? Check Details

With the advent of smartphones, India has witnessed a significant acceleration in the growth of its gaming community. Yet, this advancement is not without its share of dilemmas, such as addiction and financial strain. The Indian government, acknowledging these rising concerns, has taken proactive measures to mitigate the issues associated with gaming. As part of these efforts, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology (IT), Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has disclosed that the government has initiated a unique framework aimed at regulating online gaming. This marks the country’s first venture into this arena.

A BAN on Betting Apps & Addictive Games by the Government of India

The government has also devised a detailed plan, outlining the limitations that will be imposed on the gaming industry. The Union Minister emphasized that going forward, three categories of games would be banned. However, no specific criteria have been provided to distinguish these categories. These are:

The first category of games, as per the government’s framework, includes those that involve or promote betting. Such games often lead to recurring financial losses and encourage unethical behavior. This step is primarily taken to tackle the issues associated with gambling-oriented apps.

The second category is centered on games that feature harmful content. This includes violent or graphic themes that could potentially harm players’ mental and emotional well-being. By imposing restrictions on these games, the government aims to shield individuals from possible detrimental effects.

The third and final category includes games that are deemed addictive. These games often result in severe addiction, financial losses, and compromised physical health. By regulating these types of games, the government seeks to address concerns about addiction and its related fallout.

The Indian government’s effort to regulate online gaming comes in the wake of a scandal called the Gaming Conversion Racket. The alleged perpetrators, Shahnawaz Khan and Abdul Rehman, a maulvi at a mosque in Ghaziabad, reportedly targeted children in online gaming lobbies, attempting to persuade them to convert to a specific religion. This serious issue has underscored the need for action and sparked anxiety within the gaming community.

BGMI May Get BAN in India?

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) recently made a triumphant return in India, much to the delight of its fans. However, recent statements by the Union Minister have raised concerns about the possibility of another ban on the game. Despite these apprehensions, BGMI was able to secure approval by complying with all regulations.

As a safeguard, the game has implemented restrictions on playtime and online spending for its users. BGMI has been granted a trial period of three months, after which its status will be reviewed. As of now, it is unclear whether BGMI will face another ban or continue to be available to players in India.
